Peter Sramek |
Peter Sramek was born in 1951, grew up in Toronto, Canada and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, studying photography under Minor White. He returned to Toronto in 1975 and in 1976 began teaching photography at the Ontario College of Art and Design. He was Assistant Dean in the Faculty of Art for 3.5 years and Florence Program Coordinator in Florence, Italy for 2 sessions, the last from September 1999 through April 2000. After a year as Associate Dean he is currently Professor of Photography in the Faculty of Art.
Sramek's silver black and white photography is currently centred on panoramic images of European historical sites in Italy, the Crech Republic, France and Germany. His work is represented by the Stephen Bulger Gallery, in Toronto, Ontario.
Sramek's interest in sequenced imagery led to his involvement with handbinding and bookworks using traditional photo-printmaking processes to which he has added digital-imaging technologies. He has exhibited extensively in Canada and his bookworks have been included in group exhibitions in Canada, Europe and the United States. His books are in various collections, notably the National Library of Canada and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
He has also been involved in digital imaging since the early 1980's, currently working with both still and video formats and producing mural works, books and installations.
Peter Sramek has taught a wide variety of workshops including Hand Bookbinding, Non-adhesive Binding Structures, Introductions to the Macintosh Computer, Digital Imaging and Adobe Photoshop for Artists and Photographers.
